Library Etiquette

DSC_0030It is the second week of classes and for many of us the work is starting to pile up. The readings are getting longer, the assignments harder, and the time for completion is much shorter. Having roommates can make studying difficult and nearly impossible to get work done. Doing work in your room often leads to unscheduled naps and unnecessary internet surfing. Fortunately for the students at Washington College our campus has an excellent library to fill all our studying needs. With three floors of workspace, private group study rooms, and computer room there is always a place to get work done at the Miller Library. Sophie’s Café is located on the main floor of the library and provides students with their late night caffeine fixes and snacks. The Quantitative Skills Center, located in the back of the library on the main floor, is a great place to get help for those tough math classes. Take advantage of the library and make it work for you. Do not allow yourself to get bad grades because your roommate keeps distracting you. Head to the library and find out how productive you can be.

Before you go to the library it is important to be aware of a few things. Remember that your fellow students come to the library to get work done and it is important to keep your conversations quiet and limited. If you are having problems with the noise on the main floor try moving to the quiet areas on the 3rd floor. Computers can get taken pretty fast and are usually in high demand, so when you are finished move to a table. No one likes to do work at a table covered in trash or on top of a floor covered in crumbs. Clean up your mess when you are finished and your classmates will be very grateful. Listen to your music with headphones on and do not have your volume turned up to loud allowing others to hear it. Overall just be courteous of everyone in the library and your studying experience should be great.
