College can get stressful for everyone. Trying to balance class, homework, jobs, extracurricular activities, and still maintain a social life may seem impossible at times. It is important to remember to take care of yourself in order to avoid getting overwhelmed or even sick.
The best way to minimize stress from the start is to stay organized and create a routine. Staying on a schedule will keep you from getting flustered when school gets more demanding. Despite all the things you can do to avoid stress, some days it might be inevitable. Everyone has their own de-stress techniques but here are some ideas!
When I get overwhelmed, I have to remove myself from the situation. Taking a walk down to the waterfront or simply walking away from my desk for a little while really helps clear my head. Staying active throughout the semester can get hard but exercise is a well-known way to reduce stress. Hit the gym a few times a week to get some good endorphins flowing. If the gym isn’t for you, try club sports, fitness classes, or even yoga. Another great idea is to join a club that interests you. Dedicate some time during the week to meet with friends and do something you really enjoy. Sometimes it is helpful to get away from campus for a little while. Going to the outlets in Queenstown, getting some good food in Middletown, or sitting on the beach in Betterton are nice ways to escape from the stress of school.
However you like to de-stress, remember to monitor yourself throughout the semester and take some time to relax. College can get difficult but should always be fun!
