Don’t Get Tripped Up on Saftey!

tripping-hazardsMany students take part in the nighttime festivities here at Washington College. The campus is very safe and even the surrounding town dose not present many problems. However, for some students it is very difficult to stay safe. By safe I mean not injuring ones self while out partying. From waking up with random bruise to tripping and falling while walking around, those who regularly go out understand this problem. One thing you must keep in mind is that when you go out a night it is very dark both on and off campus. That’s what happens when you attend college in the middle of nowhere. I can speak from personal experience that tripping on unfamiliar objects and hurting your toe can ruin your night and also be easily avoided. Although random bruises may never be able to be solved, there are some other simple precautions to take that will keep you safe. My number one rule when going out is to always wear closed toe shoes. This will protect you toes when you trip on something and when people step on your feet. You should also have your phone fully charged so you can contact someone if you need help or to use as a flash light when you are walking someplace dark. If you choose to drink when you go out make sure to know your limit and always have a buddy with you. Always know where you are and know where you are going. Do not go into a strange place alone and if you do not feel comfortable leave right away, call a friend, or call public safety to pick you up. Finally, one if the most common and silliest ways people can injure themselves is by showing off. Do not try to impress your friends by jumping a fence, punching a wall, or climbing a building, Not only will you most likely hurt yourself you can also get into trouble. If you are aware of your surroundings and take these few tips you should have a damage free night. Just remember to always have friends around to pick you up when you fall down, or laugh at you when you attempt to show off.
