An Ode to Pumpkin Spice

Pumpkin-Spice-Smoothie-1It’s finally fall! Some may argue that it is the best time of year, because it definitely is. Fall is when everything good in the world happens, such as football, Halloween, Thanksgiving, nice weather, the best clothing options for both girls and boys, but most importantly fall festivities and flavors!

The most exciting of these festivities include pumpkin and apple picking, pumpkin carving, hay rides, bonfires, haunted houses, and game day tailgates. However fun and important these fall festivities are, there is a crucial feature of this special time of year: pumpkin spice. Most love it, some may hate it, but the reality is that pumpkin spice is a defining feature of fall that our generation has adopted over the years. The pumpkin spice flavor accurately embodies all things fall, which is why it has become a fall favorite among most.

To the disappointment of many on campus, Starbucks is pretty far away. So although it may be impossible to get the original Pumpkin Spice Latte for some, there are still ways to get your fall flavor fix on campus or close by in Chestertown. The Dining Hall offers a pumpkin spice flavored coffee most days during fall. In fact, today was its first appearance. Java George and Sophie’s Café in the library offer their own pumpkin latte that holds its own against the original PSL. There are also pumpkin chocolate chip muffins offered on select days at Java George, and I can tell you from personal experience that these muffins are absolutely delicious! Even around historic Chestertown you can find pumpkin flavors, from Dunkin Donuts to Acme!

Despite being miles away from a Starbucks, we can all enjoy our pumpkin spice favorites, and enjoy fall the way it was meant to be!
