The Washington College Dance Club is proudly presenting their annual dance recital this weekend. The dance concert is always a great time to see your fellow students on stage. An amazing aspect of this show is that it is entirely student choreographed and conducted. Student choreographers teach their classes weekly throughout the fall and spring semesters. They come up with their own original work and teach it to other students. These students have varying experience in dance but you would never be able to tell by the time they get on stage.

Personally, I think this is one of the best years of the dance concert I have seen so far. There is a wide variety of dance styles, from hip-hop to lyrical to tap and ballet. My favorite piece is junior Jake Smith’s hip-hop dance. His dances always have a ton of energy and great music. He incorporates his favorite style into very unique choreography with an interesting twist at the end. Another standout dance to me is senior Anna Nazario’s lyrical dance called Islands. This dance has a large amount of people in it so they really fill the whole stage. The choreography combined with the lighting and the costumes makes it a very beautiful number.

If these dances sound interesting to you, come see them in action this weekend. There will be two shows this weekend, Friday at 7:30 pm and Saturday at 1 pm. Tickets are free to anyone who wants to come see the show!
