Athletics’ Weekend Preview

washcollgooselogo.jpgThere are only a handful of opportunities for teams to climb the standings or hold their playoff berth in the Centennial Conference. Here is what you can catch this weekend:

Baseball:

WC is coming off of a much needed sweep versus Centennial Conference opponent Franklin & Marshall. The two wins even WC with a 5-5 conference record. This weekend is another crucial one for head coach Matt Reynold’s squad as they will host Haverford College on Saturday for a double header and then travel to Ursinus on Sunday for another twin bill. The Fords are coming off of dominant 20-6 blowout versus Dickinson College. Haverford is 9-3 in conference play. First pitch is set for 12:30 with a live broadcast on GooseNationTV.com

The following day WC will visit Ursinus College to round out the week. Ursinus hosts John’s Hopkins on Saturday for two games. With both teams playing a doubleheader the day prior, pitching will be limited. Whoever’s lineup can stretch out a little longer can mount some CC wins. First pitch is at 12:30

Women’s Lacrosse:

After winning an impressive 9-7 road conference game versus Haverford College, the Shorewomen now sit at third place in the Centennial Conference. Being 4-2 in conference games, WC sits behind two teams who are 6-0 in conference play in Gettysburg and Franklin & Marshall. With positive momentum, the Shorewomen have a great change to knock off #5 Gettysburg at home.

The Bullets will visit Roy Kirby Junior Stadium for a 1 p.m. showdown on Saturday. This will be an exciting matchup between both teams, especially with WC’s more recent success in conference play. If you can’t make the game, you can watch it on GooseNationTV.com.

Men’s/Women’s Tennis:

Not only will Gettysburg’s women’s lacrosse team travel down to Chestertown on Saturday, but so will both men’s and women’s tennis teams. Women’s tennis is 7-1 in Centennial Conference matches as they face a 4-3 in conference Gettysburg. The Shorewomen have already clinched a tournament spot for the season, and they look to end strong on their Senior Day. The match will begin at 12 p.m.

Men’s tennis is 2-4 in conference matches and the will faceoff with a 1-6 in conference opponent Gettysburg. This is a good opportunity for WC to gain some momentum before their final match versus #22 Swathmore. This match will also begin at 12 p.m.
